Mike Norvell on FSU’s new depth chart: ‘I did suggest putting ‘OR’ on everybody

Mike Norvell on FSU’s new depth chart: ‘I did suggest putting ‘OR’ on everybody

Florida State updated its depth chart for this week with some noteworthy developments on it. However, Mike Norvell says the entire lineup overall is being assessed now following their start at 1-4.

Norvell dismissed the significance of their chart during his press conference on Monday. The fact of the matter is that they’re evaluating every player at each position as he says all the spots could have had a substitute in its place instead.

“Like, I really don’t care about a depth chart, to be honest with you,” said Norvell. “It really means nothing.”

“You can see it across the board on this wonderful depth chart that we put out. I mean there’s still – there’s a lot of positions that have to be better. We’re not playing very well,” Norvell said. “I mean I did suggest to put an OR on everybody. But, like, it’s, you know, not – at the end of the day, you know, we’ve got to go do it.”

The position that many obviously saw was at quarterback between DJ Uiagalelei and Brock Glenn. Both played in their loss at SMU last weekend following an injury to Uiagalelei as the starter. DJU again had one of his worst games of the year as he went 12-30 (40%) for 222 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. Glenn then checked in to complete none of his own four throws against the Mustangs.

With that said, Norvell explained that Uiagalelei’s health has as much to do with that designation as anything.

“To put a status? Like, DJ didn’t finish the game because, one, he couldn’t finish the game. Now, I’ve said that I was going to put Brock in at that moment too but, obviously right now, there is a little bit of uncertainty of status,” said Norvell. “We’ll see what that looks like as the week goes on but it doesn’t really matter what I put on the depth chart.”

Florida State is reworking the roster as best as they can to find something that’ll work for them after how this first month of the season has gone. Norvell is going to somehow make it work too with his trust that there are players who can help them somewhere.

“The belief that I have in the guys that I get to coach? I mean, that’s unwavering, you know, because I am around them as much as anybody,” said Norvell. “So, with that is what you do in the moment. That’s where we get to prepare our butts off and go push to be better.”

“When we get out there on the field, better has to show up. If it doesn’t then there’s got to be somebody that takes advantage of the opportunity and goes and helps this football team win games.
