Wisconsin High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams – Sept. 30

Wisconsin High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams – Sept. 30

The Wisconsin On3 Massey Ratings Top 25 list as of Sept. 30 features two changes in the top ten: Kaukauna and Verona Area switched places. Cedarburg and Appleton North also traded spots in the latter part of the standings.

Meanwhile, only nine of the top 25 Wisconsin high school football teams remain undefeated after another round of action. Here are the best teams in ‘America’s Dairyland’ after the sixth week of their 2024 season.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Kimberly

The Papermakers are a good team, not just on paper. They’ve proven every week that they’re the best team in Wisconsin, and their recent matchup against Hortonville is a primary example of their dominance. Kimberly ended the game in the first half with a 35-0 lead.

The Polar Bears scored a consolation touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the result didn’t change. Limiting their opponent to seven points for the second consecutive week gives Kimberly the second-best defense in the state. However, a more formidable challenge awaits the Papermakers as they face 14th-ranked Neenah on Friday.

2. Mukwonago

The Indians are on a three-game winning streak following their bitter loss to Arrowhead. Mukwonago has the top-ranked offense in Wisconsin high school football after putting up 34 points against Kettle Moraine on Sept. 27. Mason Radobicky dominated the Lasers with an astonishing 217 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

While Mukwonago improved to 5-1 after that victory, they’re in for a tough battle against third-ranked Oconomowoc on Oct. 4. If the Indians want to win that massive showdown, they can’t afford giving up 14 fourth-quarter points as they did versus Kettle Moraine.

3. Oconomowoc

Massey Ratings had the Oconomowoc losing to Arrowhead last Friday. However, the Racoons did not read the script by pulling off a 28-21 scoreline to settle a 6-0 record. Austin Munzel threw for 356 yards and four touchdowns, while Kashton Allen had 210 yards and two touchdowns in just four receptions. After strengthening its case as one of Wisconsin’s top teams, Oconomowoc will rise to the challenge Mukwonago will bring during their encounter this Friday.

4. Franklin

The Sabers devoured Bradford 38-7 en route to their sixth victory in as many games. Franklin blanked the Red Devils for the first 45 minutes until the visiting team found the end zone. Joey Kallay had 11 completions for 230 yards and three touchdowns, all received by Caden Kostowicz. Robert Beglinger added a rushing touchdown, while Dayton Klubertanz had a kick return TD. After disposing of Bradford, Franklin should find their match with Tremper easy, as Massey Ratings predict a shutout win.

5. New Richmond

The Tigers roared louder than Rice Lake, resulting in a one-point victory that bucked the Massey Ratings prediction. Abraham Monson’s field goal pulled New Richmond on top to maintain their undefeated record. However, that victory wouldn’t be possible without the outputs of Joe Hoeppner (133 rushing yards, two touchdowns) and Aiden Eckert (122 receiving yards, 1 TD). New Richmond has Menomonie on deck, and the Tigers will enjoy home-field advantage in what could be a one-sided affair.

6. Marquette University

The Hilltoppers extended their winning streak to five games via a 56-7 demolition of West Allis Hale. They could have forfeited the second half of that Wisconsin high school football match because Marquette was already up 48-7 at halftime! Tommy Novotny was the driving force behind the Hilltoppers’ dominant performance, tallying 135 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Marquette will aim for their sixth straight win by hosting Brookfield Central on Oct. 4.

7. Arrowhead

The Warhawks went to battle against Oconomowoc but came up short. That fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Vance Holtz to Harper Hughes could be a momentum-builder for Arrowhead as they rediscover their winning ways. Meanwhile, Hughes was commendable in the loss, tallying 176 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Arrowhead will need more urgency from Hughes and their offensive unit to avoid a stunning loss versus Waukesha West in a match wherein the Warhawks have a 91 percent win probability.

8. Waunakee

While the Warriors are at the tail end of the top ten, they have the second-best offense in Wisconsin after generating a season-high 51 points against winless Oregon. Defeating the Panthers is Waunakee’s fourth straight victory against their rivals from the Badger-Large Conference. The Warriors can maintain dominance within the conference by putting up more points than Sun Prairie East in their Oct. 4 clash.

9. Kaukauna (+1)

The Galloping Ghosts’ ground attack overwhelmed the Oshkosh West Wildcats, as Aiden Reardon, Bron Schaefer, and Kyle Kress combined for 348 rushing yards and four touchdowns. That one-sided 41-14 victory over the Wildcats helped them climb the Wisconsin high school football rankings by one spot. Beating Appleton North and Kimberly in their next two games can continue their rise.

10. Verona Area (-1)

The Wildcats offense finished with their second-lowest output this season (21 points) against Middleton. However, Verona’s defense got their backs by limiting the Cardinals to seven points. Putting the clamps on Middleton ensured that Verona hasn’t allowed double-digit points in their first six games. That stretch includes shutout victories against Vel Phillips Memorial and Indian Trail Academy. The Wildcats can extend their undefeated record if Verona’s defense can neutralize the Madison West offense.
