Paul Finebaum praises Ryan Williams: ‘Some of the greatest moves I’ve ever seen’
Ryan Williams was already a sensation through his first three collegiate games. He then somehow reached a whole other level with what he did in his fourth career outing at Alabama.
Paul Finebaum assessed Williams’ play and night during ‘The Matt Barrie Show’ on Sunday. In reference to what was the game-winning touchdown, Finebaum felt it was the best combination of moves that he’d witnessed a player do.
“He made the play,” said Finebaum. “You tell me. I mean that’s some of the greatest moves I’ve ever seen on one single play
Barrie agreed with him adding the context of what Williams is already doing in comparison to some of the all-time talents from Tuscaloosa.
“Name all the legendary Alabama receivers. This kid is the youngest and he’s already doing this. I mean, it’s frightening,” said Barrie. “Think about this, Paul. You have that young man on Alabama as their go-to guy as a true freshman.”
Williams finished the game with season-best numbers of six receptions for 177 yards and a touchdown. There were plenty of jukes and spins throughout the stat line. One catch was already insane as he brought it in for a gain after bobbling it up in the air three times. However, the one that’ll be remembered is the 75-yard score after adjusting in mid-air to bring it in, spinning twice, including once that caused his defenders to run into one another, and getting free down the sideline to eventually win it for ‘Bama.
Williams has become as good of a highlight as there is in college football and he’s only a third of the way through his first fall in college. With that said, Finebaum does want one thing to stop in regards to the freshman phenom.
“I will ask the world. Can we stop? Everyone in America and some parts of Arkansas know that Ryan Williams is only 17 years old,” said Finenbaum. “I mean, we get it. We’ve heard that a thousand million times.”
“That was a concern. Not anymore,” said Finebaum about the perceived issue of the age of the weapons like Williams. “The combination of the athleticism between passer and receiver there is really beyond comment.”
