Carson Beck on loss to Alabama: ‘I’m not big on moral victories’

Carson Beck on loss to Alabama: ‘I’m not big on moral victories’

Quarterback Carson Beck and Georgia mounted a tremendous rally to take the lead against Alabama late in the fourth quarter after falling behind 28-0, but the Bulldogs weren’t able to come up with a key stop when they needed it.

Ultimately the Crimson Tide rolled to a 41-34 win in a classic SEC showdown.

For quarterback Carson Beck there was little solace in the fact that the team put together such a late surge, given the fact that it’ll still go down as a loss in the record books.

“I’m really proud of our guys and how we fought,” Beck said. “Obviously I’m upset. I’m not big on moral victories. I believe in winning and losing, and we lost. But we fought hard and I mean that’s something to be proud of.”

For Georgia, the poor early defense was as much an issue as anything. Alabama led 28-0 within the first 18 minutes of the game.

Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe scored twice himself on runs, then threw another touchdown in that sequence. The Bulldogs had no answers for him early on.

Meanwhile, the offense was out of sync on the other side.

Eventually, though, Carson Beck and company settled in and kept battling, going to work. The Dawgs chipped away at the lead, scoring a touchdown before halftime to get back into rhythm.

“I think that’s how we’re built,” Beck said. “I think that’s what the ‘G’ stands for. I think we’ve always shown that no matter what the circumstances are we’re always going to fight and we’re definitely, we’re not going to quit ever. It’s who we are.”

Georgia scored first in the second half to cut into the lead. Then the Bulldogs scored three straight touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take the lead.

It wasn’t enough, but it was impressive.

“I’m proud of that but I wish some things would have went different,” Carson Beck said. “You know that first half we probably played terrible. I don’t think we need to watch the film to go see that. We didn’t play our best. That starts with me, I’ve got to be better. But I’m happy about how we fought. We brought it all the way back and took a lead, we just weren’t able to close it up.”
