Texas drops to No. 2 in the AP Poll, takes the top spot in the Coaches Poll

Texas may have won on Saturday against Mississippi State but the Longhorns did drop a spot Sunday in the AP Poll. Texas was ranked No. 2 in the AP Poll with 19 first-place votes. Alabama jumped Ohio State and Texas to take the top spot with 40 first-place votes.

The Longhorns are still No. 1 in another poll. Texas became the No. 1 team in the Coaches Poll after Georgia’s loss to the Crimson Tide.

Teams on Texas’ schedule in the new AP Poll include No. 5 Georgia, No. 10 Michigan, and No. 19 Oklahoma. Kentucky was a team that was listed as receiving votes.

SEC teams in the top 25 included No. 1 Alabama, No. 4 Tennessee, No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 Missouri, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 13 LSU, No. 19 Oklahoma, and No. 25 Texas A&M.

The Longhorns took the top spot in the Coaches Poll with 29 first-place votes. Alabama was No. 2 with 19 first-place votes. Other SEC teams in the Coaches Poll included No. 4 Tennessee, No. 5 Georgia, No. 9 Missouri, No. 11 Ole Miss, No. 12 LSU, No. 17 Oklahoma, and No. 21 Texas A&M.

Michigan, the only team from Texas’ non-conference schedule to be ranked, was No. 10.

Texas is on bye before facing the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday, October 5.
