Roman Harper reacts to QB issues in Auburn loss, raises major alarm

Roman Harper reacts to QB issues in Auburn loss, raises major alarm

Auburn dropped another game at home on Saturday with quarterback turnovers being the main storyline. Both Hank Brown and Payton Thorne threw interceptions against Arkansas while a fumble also cost Hugh Freeze‘s squad points in the first half. A devastating loss for the Tigers as they drop to 2-2 on the season.

Unfortunately, the schedule is not getting any easier for Auburn. Roman Harper of the SEC Network believed a winning record would occur on the Plains but had Arkansas and the previous loss against Cal marked down as wins.

“I’m concerned,” Harper said. “Initially, going into the season, I guesstimated that they would win seven games. Two of those games are now gone with Cal and Arkansas and home. I thought they would be able to win those games and they did not.”

Taking those two away, Harper would have five wins as the potential win total for Auburn. But looking at who is coming up, he is wondering when the next win is going to come — at least against SEC opponents.

“I’m really concerned because this team could start to spiral,” Harper said. “Where is the next win going to come from? How do they get off the slide?… Where is this team going to finish? Right now, I couldn’t tell you one thing that comes to that.”

Nov. 16 against Louisiana-Monroe is the final nonconference game of the season and one you hope Auburn could win with ease.

But seven SEC matchups still remain and will present their own kind of challenge. Oklahoma is next up, coming to Jordan-Hare Stadium having some quarterback/turnover problems of their own. However, there is still a ton of confidence in Norman regarding what the defense can put together.

Even Vanderbilt is somebody Harper is keeping an eye out for on Nov. 2. The Commodores took Missouri to overtime on Saturday and the SEC Network analyst is not counting them as an automatic win as most might have in years past. After all, Diego Pavia has beaten the Tigers in their building before.

Auburn will spend the entire month of October on the road, facing Georgia, Missouri, and Kentucky. They will play host to Texas A&M right before Thanksgiving before traveling to Tuscaloosa for the Iron Bowl two days after the holiday.

Tough matchup after tough matchup could lead to Auburn “spiraling” out of control at some point. Especially if the turnover problems are not fixed moving forward.
