Kansas State players of the game in crushing loss at BYU

Kansas State players of the game in crushing loss at BYU

Kansas State offensive MVP: N/A

To be honest, no Kansas State offensive player was worthy of being noted player of the game. K-State had crucial penalties all night in big situations and could not throw the ball effectively. In total, the Wildcats had six pre-snap penalties and three were in the red zone.

DJ Giddens had a solid game with 93 yards, but had a critical fumble leading to a scoop and score which completely flipped the game. Avery Johnson had a good game rushing the football, but had two costly interceptions leading to 14 more points.

In all, the Wildcat offense had three turnovers, four including a turnover on downs leading to 28 BYU points.

Defensive MVP: Brendan Mott

It also was not a great performance by the Kansas State defense, either. They were in a tough spot with turnovers by the K-State offense. Brendan Mott continued his strong season so far having 1.5 sacks. Mott is playing at a high level right now getting to the quarterback with four on the season.

Austin Romaine quietly again was solid. The true sophomore led Kansas State in tackles with nine and now has 24 tackles in the last three games.

K-State special teams MVP: Chris Tennant

Chris Tennant wins special teams MVP by default. Tennant was perfect on all three of his kicks with a long of 32 yards.

Did I mention it was a rough game? Kansas State just punted once in the game and Simon McClannan had a 57-yard punt. However, BYU ran the punt back 90 yards for a touchdown to really blow the game open in the third quarter. The Cougars punt return capped a 31-0 run which began with 2:10 to go in the second quarter. Dylan Edwards had a 25-yard kick return and 47 total return yards.
