Oregon 4-star OT commit Ziyare Addison is “hearing, not listening” to other schools

Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day four-star offensive tackle Ziyare Addison surprised some with his commitment to Oregon back in June. He had visited Eugene multiple times, including an official visit, and it was that visit days before he committed that pushed him to commit to the Ducks.

It has been three-plus months and the No. 124 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and his feelings about the Big Ten program haven’t changed.

“If you talk to anyone, they know I am locked in with Oregon,” Addison told On3. “My offensive line coach communicates with coach A’Lique Terry at Oregon weekly to talk technique, so I can work on things that make my transition to Oregon easier. That is where my focus is right now.

“I feel confident about what they can do with me. They check all my boxes. I see Oregon competing for national championships in the coming years, they have Dante Moore, an up-and-coming quarterback and they did an excellent job recruiting me. I feel really confident in my decision.”

Other schools continue to reach out. There was chatter about Addison visiting Florida earlier this month, but he says he did not make it to the Swamp. The Gators, along with Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and some others continue to recruit Addison, so how is he receiving that?

“Hearing and listening are two different things. When you hear something, it goes in and out your ears. When you are listening, you are truly listening taking things in. With other schools right now, I am hearing, not listening.

“My focus is getting the best preparation for Oregon. That is where my mind is at. I talk with coach Terry and Dan Lanning on a weekly basis. The communication is strong and they actively recruit me like they still have to get after me.

“I am locked in.”
