Location: Ross-Ade Stadium – West Lafayette, In.

Dylan Raiola wasn’t at his best on Friday against Illinois, but overall the freshman is off to a strong start this season. A five-star recruit and the No. 3 quarterback in the nation for 2024 per the On3 Industry rankings, Raiola has thrown for 967 yards and 8 touchdowns so far this season.

Cornhuskers coach Matt Rhule recently discussed what he has seen from the freshman thus far.

“I think when people have asked me what makes him special, I say that he’s not a 7-on-7 quarterback. He likes the game part of it,” Rhule said.

“Even the short yardage play, that’s what J.J. McCarthy was doing at Michigan last year. Handing off the dive, they come out tight, pull it every once in a while and he pulled it. He just knows when to make the right play.”

Raiola still has plenty to learn as his career unfolds, but there’s no doubt he has a bright future and is living up to the hype thus far.

He spoke following the loss to Illinois about areas he still needs to grow.

“I take this game on my back and I’ve gotta get better and be better for our team and put us in position to win,” Raiola said.

“I’m proud of the way they fought [on offense]. The o-line played their tails off. Receivers ran. Running backs ran hard and just came up short. Figure out what happened and correct it and move on and get better.”
