Kirk Herbstreit calls out Oklahoma for ‘unethical’ injury gamesmanship vs. Tennessee

Kirk Herbstreit calls out Oklahoma for ‘unethical’ injury gamesmanship vs. Tennessee

In what could’ve been an effort to slow down Tennessee’s breakneck pace early in their matchup on Saturday night, an Oklahoma defender went down with what appeared to be an injury before hustling off after some attention. And the move drew the ire of the color commentator, Kirk Herbstreit.

And as the situation unwound, with defensive lineman Da’Jon Terry jogging off after staying down, Herbstreit let it fly with his dim view of feigning an injury to slow down a tempo offense, such as Tennessee’s.

“This is college football. It drives me crazy. You look over after a big play and all of a sudden, he looks over and goes down. It’s not necessarily against the rules but it’s unethical as hell,” Herbstreit said. “You see it all over against these tempo offenses, guys just go down with an ‘injury.’”

Shortly after Oklahoma’s questionable injury stoppage, Tennessee was held to a field goal, taking an early 3-0 lead.
