The Longhorns will officially be without Quinn Ewers and Derek Williams on Saturday.

AUSTIN, Texas — With less than an hour until kickoff against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, the No. 1 Texas Longhorns announced that redshirt junior quarterback Quinn Ewers and sophomore safety Derek Williams will be out on Saturday.

Early in the second quarter of last Saturday’s 56-7 win over UTSA, Ewers suffered a non-contact injury to his oblique that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian later revealed was a strain that leaves the starting quarterback for the Longhorns as “week to week.” On Thursday, Sarkisian said that redshirt freshman Arch Manning would start even though Ewers “made great strides” in the days after his injury.

Williams, who has six tackles this season, as well as his first career interception in the win over Michigan, is out with a hamstring injury.

In more positive pre-game news, junior running back Jaydon Blue was dressed and participating in warmups after missing the UTSA win due to an ankle injury sustained in Ann Arbor. So too was sophomore running back Quintrevion Wisner, previously listed as a game-time decision by Sarkisian after suffering a knock against the Roadrunners. In Sarkisian’s post-game press conference, he said that Wisner could have returned if necessary.

Other players not included on the injury report who missed last week’s game are redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Aaron Bryant (knee) and sophomore safety Jelani McDonald (ankle). Bryant was not dressed during pregame warmups, along with freshman defensive tackle Melvin Hills, but McDonald was in uniform and participating.
