West Virginia announces time play will resume vs. Kansas following weather delay

West Virginia announces time play will resume vs. Kansas following weather delay

Saturday afternoon’s game between West Virginia and Kansas is set to resume play at 4:44 p.m. ET, the Mountaineers announced. The contest entered a weather delay at 2:48 p.m. ET after lightning was spotted within eight miles of Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown.

With things now cleared up, however, it appears we’re getting closer to the game reaching its conclusion. There is 10:43 remaining in the fourth quarter as the Jayhawks are clinging to a 21-7 lead.

The matchup is the Big 12 opener for both school, each of which could use a win after starting out the season 1-2. This looks like a matchup that will come down to the wire as we’re hopefully in for an exciting finish.

It marks the second time a WVU home game has been delayed due to weather this season after the opener against Penn State also saw a stoppage due to lightning. That delay lasted more than two hours, and this one was just under the two-hour mark.

Kansas trailed 14-7 at halftime but scored a touchdown on its opening drive of the second half to tie things up. Jalon Daniels found Luke Grimm on a seven-yard score that was the first TD of the game for the QB.

WVU went on to kick a field goal on the ensuing drive to retake a 17-14 lead. However, Kansas was not done as it responded with another touchdown to take its first lead of the game. Daniel Hishaw ran that one in from 11 yards out.

The Jayhawks found a lot of success on the ground thus far with 197 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers have already committed two turnovers.

They’ll need to limit their mistakes if they hope to come back once play resumes following the weather delay in the West Virginia vs. Kansas game.
