Ryan Day reacts to Ohio State’s ‘mixed bag’ performance, victory over Marshall

Ryan Day reacts to Ohio State’s ‘mixed bag’ performance, victory over Marshall

Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes advanced to 3-0 on the season in Week 4, as they defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd by a score of 49-14 on Saturday.

Leading the way was transfer running back Quinshon Judkins, as he amassed 173 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon. Afterwards, Day spoke with FOX’s Jenny Taft, where he explained why he believes the win was a “mixed bag” for the Buckeyes.

“Sort of a mixed bag,” Day said, regarding Ohio State’s performance. “I thought the offense was really explosive today, and the defense got some good stops in there, but we were just a little sloppy in certain areas. So, we’ll take a look at the film and get them fixed.”

Continuing, Day also spoke on the offensive performance from the Buckeyes, as they’ve been stout on that side of the ball in 2024. According to Day, they’re still finding their identity under Chip Kelly, but the future is looking bright.

“More balanced, you know, and more of the same,” Day said, regarding what Ohio State’s offense will look like moving forward. “You know, we’re still trying to find our identity there, but I think, for the most part, I really think those guys are playing hard. I think the offensive line played hard. I thought the running backs played hard. I thought Will [Howard] played well, made good decisions. The receivers did a great job of, you know, running after the catch in this game, and on the perimeter blocking.

“So, you can see when the balance is going well, that we can be explosive. So again, it’s just finding our identity, but it’s a good start.”

With another victory in the bag, Ohio State will look to continue their impressive play when they start facing some conference foes next weekend. The Buckeyes will travel to East Lansing, as they’ll face the Michigan State Spartans in Week 5.

Ryan Day’s bunch will surely be favored in that one, and they’ll be motivated to keep their offense humming against the Spartans. For the rest of Saturday though, Ohio State can enjoy a nice victory over a scrappy Marshal team.
