Dallan Hayden injury update: Pete Thamel reveals status of Colorado RB vs. Baylor

Dallan Hayden injury update: Pete Thamel reveals status of Colorado RB vs. Baylor

Colorado running back Dallan Hayden won’t play Saturday against Baylor, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

It’s the Big 12 opener for the Buffaloes and they’ll be without one of their key playmakers. It’s unclear how long Hayden will be sidelined.

“Sources: Colorado tailback Dallan Hayden will not play against Baylor on Saturday,” Thamel wrote on Twitter. “He’s dealing with a high-ankle sprain that forced him to miss the Colorado State game last week. He’s an Ohio State transfer who is a key part of Colorado’s run game.”

Head coach Deion Sanders initially didn’t rule Hayden out of the game against Baylor. However, he admitted that he wants to see him in practice before he makes a decision about the game itself.

“We don’t know where he is right now or what he wants to do,” Deion Sanders said. “I like to see it at practice before I see it in the game. So, if he’s able to play, he’s going to play.”

Hayden came to Colorado following the 2023 season as a transfer from Ohio State. The hope was that he could add a spark to the Buffaloes rushing game. However, it has continued to be a problem for the team and Hayden has rushed for just 52 yards on 14 carries this season.

Thanks to the injury, Hayden was forced to miss Colorado’s most recent game against rival Colorado State.

Dallan Hayden out vs. Baylor

Without Hayden, Colorado might rely on the passing game, again, with Shedeur Sanders. He’s adjusted quite well to Pat Shurmur’s offense though.

“Great. Shedeur is a pro man, you guys know that, I’m not telling you nothing you don’t know,” Sanders said. “Whenever we give him time, we understand the results. There hadn’t been one game in his career here, that he’s had time to do what he needed to do that he has failed you. I just happened to be on site his entire career, and I know what he’s comprised of. The kid can play this game. What coach Shurmur brings to the table is unbelievable. With the communication process, you would have to hear it and understand it throughout the week and sit down, you know, coming together on game plans and situational football and listening to what he sees.

“He may see something out there pre-snap, whatever that we don’t see, because we’re not out there, and it’s phenomenal. The adjustments he makes in using the tablets to his finest moment on the sideline, that’s an additive toward to us, and how he sees the game, he’s played a lot of football.”
