Cam Coleman injury update: Pete Thamel reveals status vs. Arkansas

Cam Coleman injury update: Pete Thamel reveals status vs. Arkansas

Auburn freshman wide receiver Cam Coleman is expected to play on Saturday against Arkansas, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Coleman didn’t play in Auburn’s Week 3 win over New Mexico after suffering a shoulder injury in Auburn’s 21-14 loss to California on Sept. 7.

In his debut campaign, Coleman boasts four receptions for 115 yards and one touchdown. Coleman was the No. 4 overall prospect and No. 2 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

In his senior year of high school, Coleman tallied 61 receptions for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns to lead Central HS to the Class 7A state championship. He didn’t falter under the bright lights, reeling in a 73-yard TD pass in the state title game to earn MVP honors.

Now, Coleman will have a chance to shine against Auburn’s first SEC foe of the season. The first-year standout should have numerous opportunities. Arkansas is allowing 228 passing yards per game, ranking No. 88 in the country.

Cam Coleman’s teammates rave about his talent

With any luck, Cam Coleman could have a breakout game against the Razorbacks. His teammates certainly don’t lack faith in him. Before the season began, Auburn cornerback Champ Anthony claimed 50-50 balls are more like “60-40, 70-30 in Coleman’s favor.”

Further, Linebacker Eugene Asante stated Coleman “really wants to be one of the best to ever play this game at this university.” They aren’t the only ones who have fostered high expectations for Coleman.

At the 2024 SEC Media Days, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze heaped praise on Coleman.

“I love him,” Freeze said about Coleman. “I’m careful not to put too unrealistic expectations on freshmen. But I think we had the No. 1 receiving class in the country in Cam, and Perry [Thompson], and Bryce [Cain], and Malcolm [Simmons].

“Love all four of them, Cam went through spring so I have more feel for who he is and he’s gonna have to play. I mean he’s really, really talented.”

Auburn and Arkansas will square off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will air live on ESPN.
