Arlington to host metroplex-wide Hispanic voter engagement event

Arlington to host metroplex-wide Hispanic voter engagement event

Business leaders across Dallas-Fort Worth are teaming up to mobilize Hispanic voters, with the area’s Hispanic chambers of commerce partnering to present the free “Soy Votante” voter engagement event in Arlington.

The evening aims to foster civic participation, offering voter registration assistance and election planning resources. Speakers include Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, with the event running from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Choctaw Lounge in Texas Live.

Several of the region’s largest Hispanic commerce organizations, including the Arlington Latino Chamber of Commerce, the Regional Hispanic Contractors Association and the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, are organizing the event. The Arlington Report will serve as the evening’s media sponsor.

The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 5 election is Oct. 7. Early voting begins Oct. 21 and ends Nov. 1.

About 29% of Texas’ registered voters are Hispanic, according to estimates from Televisa Univision, a media organization with efforts to raise Hispanic voting helping organize the event.

That’s out of step with the state’s Hispanic population. In 2022, the group grew to become the biggest share of Texas’ population, making up 40.2% of the state, according to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.

In Tarrant County, Hispanics make up 29.4% of the population. Tarrant County residents can check their registration status online using the county’s Voter Lookup page.
