Tim Tebow: Texas does not have QB controversy, but have two ‘elite’ players in Quinn Ewers, Arch Manning

Tim Tebow: Texas does not have QB controversy, but have two ‘elite’ players in Quinn Ewers, Arch Manning

Tim Tebow knows a thing or two about being a quarterback, so he loves Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning.

However, the former Heisman Trophy winner doesn’t see a controversy at Texas. Ewers is still the guy, but Manning will fill in until the OG starter is back.

Whenever Ewers is back, he has a chance for the Heisman and to lead Texas to a title, even if Manning has similar capabilities.

“I think Arch has played extremely well, not just well, but excellent to elite,” Tebow told On3. “He really has. He’s done so many things, whether it’s been accuracy or poise, decision making, ball placement, athleticism, so many things well, but with all that said, I do not think there’s a quarterback controversy.

“I think Quinn Ewers is one of the best players in the country. I think he has the legit shot for the Heisman, Texas has a legit shot to be a playoff contender, if not a championship winner. Do they have the best quarterback room in the country? Probably with both of them. Could Arch be an elite quarterback right now? Yes, probably. But I don’t think that you have a controversy.”

Ewers has been successful in his three games, as has Manning whenever he pops in, with 691 yards, eight touchdowns, two interceptions and a 73.4% completion percentage.

Based on those numbers, Ewers is on pace to pass his touchdown numbers from 2023 (22), should he play all 12 games. Now, he might miss a game or two due to injury, with Manning filling in.

Still, Tebow gave the nod to Ewers over Manning

“I think Quinn is the guy, and you have an elite backup who’s going to be also probably an elite player, maybe a superstar, and I’m excited to see that,” Tebow said. “But right now, I really believe it’s Quinn’s time. It’s Quinn’s team. But how fortunate are you that you have another incredible player right behind him?

“Like, let’s also be honest, (Steve Sarkisian has) done a really good job at recruiting and building and cultivating and building up these quarterbacks. And then on top of it, I think Sark is one of the best play callers as well, so that only helps both of them.”
