Wolverine TV: Game clips of On300 Michigan DB target Joey O’Brien

Wolverine TV: Game clips of On300 Michigan DB target Joey O’Brien

The Wolverine’s EJ Holland was on the road in Pennsylvania over the weekend and saw On300 Wyndmoor (Pa.) La Salle College defensive back and top 2026 Michigan target Joey O’Brien in game action.

Watch full clips of O’Brien in the video above.

O’Brien Recruitment

O’Brien notched an offer from Michigan in May when the staff hit the road for the spring evaluation period.

Area recruiter Grant Newsome started the relationship building process, while new secondary coach LaMar Morgan has continued to form a bond with O’Brien over the last several months.

Michigan has a need for a taller, longer safety next cycle, and O’Brien definitely fits the description at 6-foot-4, 180 pounds. Morgan is making O’Brien a top priority and got him on campus for his first visit in late July for the BBQ at The Big House.

Morgan and company are now working to get O’Brien back to Ann Arbor for a game this fall.

Here is what Holland had to say about his recruitment.

“O’Brien is a tall, long safety with plus athleticism,” O’Brien said. “He’s a rangy safety with good speed for his size. La Salle even lined him up at cornerback in the second half, and he was only thrown at once. That was an incompletion. O’Brien is a versatile athlete who also plays wide receiver. He made a few plays there as well. He’s not necessarily physical and needs to add more weight and muscle mass to his lanky frame. Michigan got him on campus for the BBQ at The Big House and is trying to get him back for a game.”

Along with Michigan, O’Brien holds offers from Alabama, Florida State, Michigan State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee, UCLA and others.

O’Brien is ranked as the No. 12 safety and No. 150 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 4 overall recruit in the state of Pennsylvania for next cycle.

Notre Dame has the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 92.3 percent chance of landing him. Penn State is in second place with a 4.0 percent chance of landing him. Michigan is in third place with a 1.2 percent chance of landing him.

Michigan holds two verbal commitments in its 2026 recruiting class in Top 100 Cocoa (Fla.) High quarterback Brady Hart and On300 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin cornerback Brody Jennings.
