Division III NCAA wrestling champion Massoma Endene decommits from Wisconsin

Division III wrestling national champion Massoma Endene made waves this spring when he committed to Wisconsin out of the NCAA transfer portal. But after careful consideration, he has decided to reverse course on that transfer.

Endene posted on his Instagram account explaining the decision to reverse course and stay at Division III Wartburg College.

“Throughout my life, I have been blessed with incredible opportunities to compete in the sport of wrestling, and it was a dream come true to have the opportunity to have my path lead to Madison and the Wisconsin Wrestling Program,” Endene wrote. “However, after much careful thought, deliberation and conversation with my family, I’ve decided to return to Wartburg College for my final year of athletic eligibility.”

Over the last two years, Massoma Endene won two NCAA titles at the Division III level with Wartburg College. The school is located in Waverly (Iowa).

While at 197 pounds, he was the dominant force in the weight class, going 28-0 last season.

Prior to Wartburg College, Endene was a two-time Junior College All-American, including being the 2022 runner-up while with Iowa Lakes Community College.

The goal was to wrestle under Chris Bono and Jon Reader at Wisconsin, though Massoma Endene later had a change of heart. He thanked the Wisconsin program upon his departure.

“I want to extend my gratitude to Coach Bono and Coach Reader as well as the entire wrestling staff for everything they have done for me during my time here. Their support, guidance, and mentorship has been truly invaluable.”

Massoma Endene also touched on his own future now that this momentous decision is out of the way.

“In the coming weeks and months, my focus will turn to the upcoming U23 World Championships and my pursuit of a third NCAA Championship,” he wrote. “I’m excited for the future and the challenge ahead! Thank you to everyone who has supported me up until this point. Now it’s time to finish what I started!”
