MarShawn Lloyd injury update: Green Bay Packers place rookie RB on injured reserve

MarShawn Lloyd injury update: Green Bay Packers place rookie RB on injured reserve

MarShawn Lloyd made his NFL debut over the weekend, but now he is back banged up.

The Packers have placed Lloyd on injured reserve, they announced Tuesday afternoon. With MarShawn Lloyd going on IR, Green Bay signed Chris Brooks to the active roster off of their practice squad.

Brooks is a second-year player out of BYU who started his career with the Dolphins. He played in nine games for Miami last season.

As for MarShawn Lloyd, the third round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is dealing with an ankle injury. He rushed six times for 15 yards in Green Bay’s win over the Colts on Sunday and also caught one pass for 3 yards.

Lloyd was asked how his ankle was doing earlier this week and if he expected to miss some time.

“Honestly I don’t know,” he said. “It’s a sprain, so I’ve just got to figure out how… I’m walking pretty good, I’m doing everything pretty good. It’s just a day-by-day thing. I’m excited for what’s to come.”

We now know that Lloyd has been placed on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the next four games.

It has been a frustrating rookie campaign for Lloyd, who has dealt with several injuries already since being drafted by the Packers.

“Yes, and every time I get frustrated I have a guy like Josh Jacobs — because he knows, he’s been through it. Every time I say something about it, or I come up to him, I’ll say like, ‘I can’t catch a break.’ Josh will stop me and he’s like, ‘It happens.’

“Like he said yesterday, who cares? That’s something I really like that he said to me, like who cares. Just do what you can do, accept the adversity and get better. At the end there’s going to be something good that comes out, so I’m taking things day-by-day and eventually I’ll be ready to go.”

It’s easy to see that the veteran Jacobs has been a good mentor for Lloyd and is helping him during his rookie season.

“I’m a young guy looking up to Josh before I got here and then seeing it in person, seeing it at practice, just seeing the way he runs, the way he breaks tackles, the way he makes people miss,” Lloyd said. “I see a lot of those things in myself and I’m just excited to have a guy like Josh who can help me with different things.”
