LaNorris Sellers injury update: Shane Beamer reveals latest on South Carolina QB
It appears as though South Carolina starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers will be able to play on Saturday when the Gamecocks host Akron.
Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer told reporters on Tuesday that Sellers has told him he is good to go for this weekend’s out-of-conference game.
“LaNorris assures me he’s good and will be ready to roll,” Beamer said.
LaNorris Sellers was banged up late in the first half of Saturday’s loss to LSU. He attempted to play in the second half but was eventually taken out of the game and replaced by backup Robby Ashford.

Sellers completed 9 of 16 passes for 113 yards prior to leaving the game. He also rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns.
Beamer was asked if perhaps the coaching staff will try to protect Sellers and avoid running him against Akron since he is coming off of an injury. In a perfect world that would be ideal, but Beamer said the No. 1 goal is to win the game.
“Yea, but we’re trying to win a game Saturday night, and that’s not going to be easy, either,” Beamer said. “I know it’s easy to say, ‘Well this is not an SEC team, and they’re 1-2 and they lost to Ohio State and Rutgers.’ This team presents problems, and we’ve gotta do what we have to do to win the football game on Saturday.
“But certainly we’re always going to do what’s best for our players and our football team. But we’ve got a bunch of competitors. Saturday LaNorris wanted to play in that game. I didn’t think it was best for him or the team for him to finish the second half from a health standpoint. I just didn’t think he was where he needed to be.”
Without Sellers the offense struggled as Ashford completed only two passes and the Gamecocks were scoreless in the third quarter.
