One of the top high school football players in the state of North Carolina is headed back home.

Five-star 2026 tight end Kendre Harrison, who transferred into Charlotte Providence Day for his junior season, is now returning back to Reidsville High, according to multiple reports.

Harrison is one of the nation’s best recruits, regardless of classification. He ranks as the No. 10 overall prospect and No. 1 TE in the junior class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Last week, Providence Day coach Chad Grier told the Charlotte Observer he wasn’t sure if Harrison would play with the Chargers any more this season.

“You have to ask Kendre about that,” Grier said. “Kendre’s a great kid. I love him. He’s done everything I’ve asked of him. He’s doing well in school. He’s worked hard. He’s humble. I think he’s got an incredibly high ceiling. I just think the world of the kid and wish him the best. You’d have to talk to him about anything else.”

He is expected to become eligible immediately if all requirements are met because he is returning to his original school, where he’ll again star both on the football field and the basketball court.

As a sophomore in 2023, Harrison hauled in 62 catches for 930 yards and 16 touchdowns as a tight end. He also added 76 tackles, nine sacks and eight pass deflections at defensive end to help the Rams to a 15-1 record before transferring to Providence Day.

He was also a star on the basketball court, averaging 19.4 points, 15.1 rebounds and 3.7 blocked shots per game. Harrison posted 25 double-doubles and helped Reidsville finish the season with a record of 29-0.

Tennessee, North Carolina battling for Harrison’s commitment

While he holds Division I offers in both sports, the 6-foot-6, 250-pounder is primarily being recruited to play football at the next level. More than 30 schools have already extended offers, but Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State and Tennessee are his top schools.

Two of those schools have emerged and are battling for that top spot on his list, according to On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons. Those are North Carolina and Tennessee.

“The Tar Heels are close to home and he has relationships with the football and basketball coaches as well as connections with some players, but Tennessee continues to be a strong contender,” Simmons wrote earlier this month. “It only helped when 2026 five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon committed to the Vols over Alabama and LSU earlier this summer. Those two talk often. They are likely to visit Knoxville together later this fall.I am told Tennessee is ‘right there’ with North Carolina.”
