Colston Loveland injury update: Sherrone Moore shares encouraging update on Michigan TE

Thankfully for Michigan, the injury to Colston Loveland isn’t as significant as once thought.

As Sherrone Moore revealed on his radio show tonight, Loveland’s matter is “less serious” than they originally believed.

“Colston is continuing to be evaluated,” Moore said tonight on ‘Inside Michigan Football’. “It was less serious than we thought so feel positively about that but we’ll see as the week progresses.”

Loveland left and did not return to the 28-18 win for the Wolverines over Arkansas State on Saturday. That was due to something that happened to his left arm. After checking it out in the locker room, he then eventually came back to the sideline in street clothes.

Loveland isn’t just one of the best tight ends in the country. He’s also Michigan’s most crucial offensive target with him being their leading receiver by far this season. Through two and a half games or so this year, he has caught 19 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown. Both the receptions and yardage are over double the amount of the next leader in the pass game in Semaj Morgan.

Loveland’s availability could be all the more important now with the Wolverines changing quarterbacks this week. After originally going with Davis Warren, Alex Orji, who saw the field after Warren was benched, will now be the starter for the maize & blue this weekend.

Not much is known still about the actual nature of Loveland’s injury. Still, it sounds for now as though it’s more likely that he could be back and ready for kickoff this weekend in a Top-20 matchup against USC.

Alex Orji named Michigan’s starter vs. USC

Sherrone Moore named Alex Orji as the Wolverines’ starting quarterback for this coming weekend versus USC.

Orji backed up Davis Warren over the course of the first three games. Now, he’ll get the nod to open Big Ten play.

As a reserve this season, Orji is three-of-six when passing for 15 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, he has 10 carries for 58 yards.

Through three weeks, quarterback has been an issue for the team. They started off with Warren but, after he threw three interceptions against Arkansas State, Moore benched him for Orji.

As a team, Michigan is averaging 23.3 points per game, which is 99th in scoring offense. That’s largely impacted by being 121st in passing offense that’s averaging just 153 passing yards per game and being tied for 129th in interceptions with those six from Warren.
