Kentucky guard Koby Brea named best 3-point shooter in the country

Those who know Koby Brea‘s track record won’t be shocked by what they’re about to read. The former Dayton transfer enters the 2024-25 season as the nation’s best three-point shooter.

Or at least that’s what NCAA.com’s Andy Katz believes. On Monday, he ranked the country’s best outside shooters in Division I men’s college basketball going into the fall. To little surprise, Katz tabbed Brea, who led the nation in three-point shooting last season, to the No. 1 spot.

Throughout his four-year career at Dayton, Brea shot 43.4 percent from deep on 4.6 attempts per game across 113 contests played. In 2023-24, his 49.8 percent mark on 6.1 attempts per game (both career highs) was more than three percentage points better than the second-best outside shooter. Brea was named the Atlantic 10 Sixth Man of the Year for the second time in three seasons as a result.

As fans will learn once the season begins, Brea is more than just a shooter. But at 6-foot-7, his ability to knock down every other three-pointer is easily his most attractive skill. It’s why he was down to a final five of Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, UConn, and North Carolina before committing to the Wildcats out of the transfer portal. He’s incredibly valuable as a floor-spacing wing.

The modern game requires plenty of capable shooters, and there wasn’t anyone better available in the portal than Brea. His mark of 49.8 percent (100-201) last season was the highest in the NCAA over the last six seasons. He’ll be a key fixture in Mark Pope‘s first offense at Kentucky.

The rest of Katz’s list is (as they tend to be)… interesting. But he at least got the top spot right.
