Texas safety commit Jonah Williams is now a Five-Star Plus+ prospect

Texas safety commit Jonah Williams is now a Five-Star Plus+ prospect

Galveston (Texas) Ball safety Jonah Williams was tabbed as a five-star in the updated 2025 On300 rankings on Monday.

Following the latest rankings update, the Texas commit is now in rarified air at the top of his class as a Five-Star Plus+ prospect. Recruits who earn that title are among the the elite of elite, named a five-star prospect by all four major recruiting services: On3, 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals.

Williams is now one of 10 such prospects in the 2025 class and has solidified his status as a headlining pledge for Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns. Williams committed to in-state Texas on Aug. 24 and is one of three industry five-stars committed to Texas this cycle.

“The coaching staff is great!” Williams told On3 of the in-state program. “I mean they check all the boxes that I want in a college.”

“I’m really impressed with Coach Sarkisian and the method he’s beginning to accomplish things. I think all the players are very in tune to what he’s trying to teach there. I’m very impressed with that.”

Williams has thrived during his senior season at Ball thus far, drawing high praise from On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power. Williams scored five touchdowns in his season-opener.

“Williams made big plays in all three phases in his team’s 54-26 win over an overmatched Manvel (Texas) High squad. Williams showed his elite athleticism at 6-foot-3.5, 205 pounds, running back the opening kick. He then blocked a PAT and scored four touchdowns on offense – working as a receiver and wildcat quarterback. Williams’ combination of size, athleticism and playmaking ability makes him one of the more versatile and unique prospects in the 2025 cycle.”

Scout’s Take on Jonah Williams

“Jonah Williams has the size, athleticism and playmaking instincts to be a potential queen on the chessboard for defensive coordinators. He is built like a linebacker with the athleticism of a top defensive back. Williams is a true three-phase playmaker on Friday nights, lining up at safety, wide receiver and punt returner. He’s an easy, fluid mover with a good top gear and covers ground in a hurry — whether that’s with the ball in his hands or track a ball carrier. He also shows outstanding range in coverage and has high-level ball skills with the ability to track the football over his shoulder. Notched  four interceptions as a junior along with eight pass breakups, and he’s one of the nation’s more dynamic players with the ball in his hands.”
