Quinn Ewers injury update: Steve Sarkisian gives latest on Texas QB, lists him ‘day-to-day’

Quinn Ewers injury update: Steve Sarkisian gives latest on Texas QB, lists him ‘day-to-day’

Steve Sarkisian revealed Quinn Ewers‘ injury Saturday was a non-contact situation and he’ll be day-to-day this week.

Texas saw Arch Manning sub in and account for five touchdowns in a win over UTSA. As far as who starts this weekend, it’s to-be-determined.

“There was a non-contact deal, which we touched on,” Sarkisian said. “The oblique strain there. When you guys get your injury report next Wednesday when that officially begins, he would be listed as questionable. We’re going to monitor him day to day and see what this looks like. But he would be questionable for Saturday on the report for next week.”

The AP Poll’s No. 1 team beat UTSA 56-7 Saturday with Ewers going 14-of-16 passing for 185 yards, two touchdowns and one interception before he had to exit the game.

On the season, Ewers has 691 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions. He also boasts a 73.4% completion percentage, putting him in the Heisman conversation.

But it remains to be seen if he’ll play against Louisiana-Monroe. Ewers essentially could return this week or next week against Mississippi State, Texas’ SEC opener.

That’s just based on Sarkisian calling Ewers “day-to-day” and “questionable” five days from now. Meanwhile, Manning lit it up when he came into the game.

The former No. 1 overall recruit in 2023 even made ESPN’s Paul Finebaum call him a future Heisman winner.

“He’s gonna win,” Finebaum told ESPN’s Matt Barrie. “I mean, I don’t think they look any different. Now, I’m sure, the the old timers will say — not that I’m a new timer — ‘Hey, that experience of Quinn Ewers.’ But Arch Manning looks like he’s been around and I think Texas is in great shape.

“As I remember, Spencer Rattler, wasn’t he the Heisman favorite going into the season? And he got replaced by Caleb Williams. So, I mean it’s happened before, but I’m sure Sark will figure this out. It doesn’t matter. Texas doesn’t have much on their dance card until we get to October, so they’re in good shape.”

Right now, Ewers is expected to be back in the lineup when healthy, but Manning’s play certainly makes this an interesting conversation.
