SMU WR commit Jalen Cooper’s strong start to season leads to rankings bump

SMU WR commit Jalen Cooper’s strong start to season leads to rankings bump

2025 Cibolo (Tex.) Steele four-star wide receiver Jalen Cooper committed to SMU, he announced in July. He’s now ranked even higher on On3 after the latest On300 update was revealed.

On3 ranked him as the No. 145 overall prospect and No. 19 wideout nationally, but now has him as the No. 102 overall prospect in the country and 16th-best wideout in the nation.

Cooper’s off to another impressive start to his season. He ran a punt back 98 yards last week and is averaging 110 receiving yards per game for Steele. With his production this season, he’s now the program’s all-time leader in receiving yards. Cooper’s hauled in 15 passes for 330 yards and three scores.

Cooper picked the Mustangs over Kansas State, Kansas, Baylor, Houston and others. He’s one of four wide receiver commits in the 2025 class for the Mustangs. Notre Dame offered him this fall and he’s now looking at a trip to South Bend.

SMU built a strong relationship with Cooper, led by wide receivers coach Rob Likens, who is excited to host him next week for SMU’s ACC opener.

“They talk to me every week and check on me and see how I’m doing,” Cooper said of the SMU staff this month. “I’m planning on going to SMU for the Florida State game (Sept. 28).”

In addition to Cooper, SMU has three other four-star commits with quarterback Ty Hawkins, offensive tackle Dramodd Odoms and wide receiver Daylon Singleton on board.
