Charles Power Scouting Report

Jonah Williams has the size, athleticism and playmaking instincts to be a potential queen on the chessboard for defensive coordinators. He is built like a linebacker with the athleticism of a top defensive back. Williams is a true three-phase playmaker on Friday nights, lining up at safety, wide receiver and punt returner. He’s an easy, fluid mover with a good top gear and covers ground in a hurry — whether that’s with the ball in his hands or track a ball carrier. He also shows outstanding range in coverage and has high-level ball skills with the ability to track the football over his shoulder. Notched  four interceptions as a junior along with eight pass breakups, and he’s one of the nation’s more dynamic players with the ball in his hands.”

On3 Scouting Report

Jumbo safety prospect with the size, athleticism and playmaking instincts to be a potential queen on the chessboard for defensive coordinators. Has linebacker size with the athleticism of a top defensive back. Measured in at 6-foot-3 ⅛, 206 pounds with 32.25-inch arms at the On3 Elite Series prior to his senior season. Registers as a top athlete in the combine setting. A true three-phase playmaker on Friday nights, lining up at safety, wide receiver and punt returner. An easy, fluid mover with a good top gear. Covers ground in a hurry. Shows outstanding range in coverage. Has high-level ball skills with the ability to track the football over his shoulder. Had four interceptions as a junior along with eight pass breakups. Capable of covering tight ends and receivers out of the slot. Has the skill level to be a wide receiver prospect if he wanted. A two-sport standout, as a talented baseball player who throws 94 MPH as a left-handed pitcher. Can continue making strides with his form and physicality as a tackler. Could potentially outgrow the safety spot due to his bigger frame. Rare movement skills and size give him the upside to be a game-changing movable piece at the college and pro level.

On3 Personal File

Jonah Williams is the definition of a two-sport star. Along with being named the district MVP in football during his sophomore season, he’s also widely regarded as one of the top baseball talents in the Lone Star State. In football, he returned three interceptions for touchdowns and four punts for scores in 2022. As a sophomore, the centerfielder batted .474 with 10 doubles and five triples. Following the baseball season, Williams was an unanimous all-district first-team honoree, a first-team all-county outfielder and was selected for and played in the Greater Houston Baseball Coaches Association Futures Game. “I don’t know which sport I like more – football or baseball,” Williams said. “I get a lot of questions about it, but I don’t know which sport I like more.” Williams’ older brother, Nick, was drafted in the second round of the 2012 MLB draft and made his debut with the Phillies in 2017. “There has been a lot of competition,” Williams told VYPE about how his family has made him a better athlete. “I just use it for fuel and not get caught slacking. It’s good knowing they’re there to motivate me and compete with me day in and day out.”
