William Byron tire ends up in Brad Keselowski’s car after big wreck at Watkins Glen

William Byron tire ends up in Brad Keselowski’s car after big wreck at Watkins Glen

With the race winding down, a wild wreck ended with William Byron jumping on top of Brad Keselowski’s car with his tire in the driver’s window. Thankfully, both NASCAR drivers were able to drive away after the incident.

William Byron’s right front wheel rode straight up the back of the No. 6 of Brad Keselowski. They were buried in the wall with the No. 24 propped up on top of his competitor.

This is a wreck that could have been a lot worse than it ended up being. Byron’s car was right on top of Keselowski and it’s a good thing those supports held up on the car. It all started with contact from Joey Logano and as Byron went to pass on the outside, Keselowski’s car got into the 24.

Huge consequences for the NASCAR Playoffs.

For the drivers in the NASCAR Playoffs, it has been a disaster of an afternoon. Who knew that this Watkins Glen track with a new aggressive tire would be so good? Different strategies are playing out and there have been a lot of surprises throughout the race as well.

To put the wackiness of this race into perspective, Spire Motorsports found themselves with all three drivers in the top-10 when overtime began.

The one driver who benefits from this is Denny Hamlin. He has had so many issues, it was only going to take issues for other playoff drivers to fix his woes.

William Byron takes heavy damage

With the damage to his car, pitting, and having to go to the rear of the field, William Byron will restart P34 in overtime. His day is going to be hurt dramatically by this wreck. While he had a strong first two months of the season, he has struggled lately.

So, what does this mean? Right now, it’s hard to tell how the points will shake out from today. Drivers have fallen and come back and had any and everything happen to them today. To begin the first overtime, Chase Briscoe was the only playoff driver in the top-10.

When we saw a wreck happen on Lap 1, we should have expected this madness. Yet, it is still surprising to see all of these playoff drivers get caught up in wrecks and have so many issues today.

William Byron will take a hit in the points. He will try to go to Bristol and have a strong performance to put himself in the Round of 12.
