Jermaine Johnson injury update: Robert Saleh gives heartbreaking update on Jets OLB

New York Jets outside linebacker Jermaine Johnson is feared to have torn his Achilles in Sunday’s 24-17 Week 2 road victory over the Tennessee Titans, head coach Robert Saleh said.

Johnson will undergo an MRI to confirm the diagnosis.

Johnson, the third-year pass rusher, was carted off the field in the third quarter. He went down while rushing after Titans quarterback Will Levis in what appeared to be a non-contact injury. Johnson’s teammates gathered around him as he sat on the cart. He gave a thumbs up to the crowd before being taken off the field.

Jets down another pass rusher in Jermaine Johnson

Johnson, the 2022 first round pick out of Florida State, broke out last season, recording 7.5 sacks. He was named to the Pro Bowl as an injury replacement and hoped to continue the upward trend in 2024.

The Jets’ pass rush will be challenged from here on as New York remains without star edge rusher Haason Reddick. Reddick, acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles back in March, has yet to report due to his displeasure with his contract. Johnson’s injury puts even more pressure on New York to get something done.
