Where does Penn State rank in the updated Coaches Poll?

Where does Penn State rank in the updated Coaches Poll?

Penn State had a rare early season bye week this weekend. The Nittany Lions were actually one of six schools in the Coaches Poll who had the weekend off, including two of their top competitors in the Big Ten, Ohio State and USC.

With each of the teams ranked ahead of Penn State winning on Saturday, there wasn’t much movement in the updated Coaches Poll, as James Franklin’s team dropped one spot to No. 8 in this week’s poll. The Nittany Lions are tied with Missouri, with each school receiving 968 votes.

There were a few entertaining games this past weekend, most notably Saturday night’s matchup between Georgia and Kentucky. The Bulldogs have been the consensus No. 1 team in both major polls and plenty of power rankings so far this season, but Kirby Smart’s team was challenged by a Kentucky squad that was crushed by South Carolina a week prior. A late touchdown ultimately allowed the Bulldogs to get out of Lexington unbeaten, but the performance only raises more questions when it comes to which schools should be No. 1. Texas’ big win over UTSA moved the Longhorns within just 57 points of taking over the top spot. Last week, that gap was more than 400 points.

Speaking of the Gamecocks, Shane Beamer’s squad gave LSU a scare on the road. However, after being up 33-29 with just minutes remaining, the Tigers had an eight-play, 55-yard drive to score the game-winning touchdown. Missouri also had to rally against Bill O’Brien’s Boston College squad after going down 14-3 in the second quarter.
