The two programs last met in 2022 when Kansas won a 55-42 shootout. However, West Virginia boasts a 10-2 all-time record over the Jayhawks and won eight straight games against them between 2014-21. Evidently, oddsmakers expect the Mountaineers to start a new win streak.

Kansas will be hungry for a win in Morgantown. On Saturday, the Jayhawks fell 23-20 to UNLV, worsening their record to 1-2. In the loss, Kansas QB Jalon Daniels couldn’t find a rhythm, only completing 12-of-24 passes for 153 yards while throwing two interceptions.
Running back Devin Neal was the Jayhawks’ lone bright spot on offense, amassing 120 rushing yards on 23 carries. On the other side of the ball, Kansas’ defense struggled to stop UNLV’s ground game, allowing the Rebels to collect 181 rushing yards.
With conference play officially underway, Kansas head coach Lance Leipold will implore his team to make a statement against the Mountaineers. Nonetheless, Kansas won’t be the only team heading into the conference matchup with a chip on its shoulder.
On Saturday, West Virginia suffered a nail-biting 38-34 loss to Pittsburgh. Quarterback Garrett Greene had a lackluster showing against the Panthers, only completing 53.3% of his pass attempts and throwing two interceptions.
West Virginia’s offense wasn’t solely responsible for the loss. The Mountaineers’ defense gave up 379 yards to Pitt and failed to force the Panthers to commit a turnover. West Virginia committed seven penalties in the loss, combining for 67 total yards lost.
Following the loss, WVU head coach Neal Brown revealed his postgame message to his team.
“You’re 1-2, that’s what it is and we’ve earned that,” Brown said. “We didn’t execute in the last five minutes of the game and now we got nine conference games and out league is really good and the truth of it is they’re all going to be games like we played today and we got to figure out ways to win.
“This isn’t over by any means. We’re going to fight our tail off. We got a team next week that’s in the same predicament as us. Both teams are going to come in with backs against the wall.”
