ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines football head coach Sherrone Moore met with the media following his team’s 28-18 win over Arkansas State Saturday at The Big House. Watch video of Moore’s press conference in the player at the top of the screen or on our YouTube channel.

Michigan senior quarterback Davis Warren threw 3 interceptions and was benched in favor of junior Alex Orji. Moore lamented the turnovers — the Wolverines have already given the ball 6 times, including 5 picks from Warren, through three games this season.

“Just can’t have them,” Moore said. “Put the ball in harm’s way too many times, so made a change and we’ll continue practicing and go from there.”

Michigan did run the ball for 301 yards, though, with the ability to move the ball and put up 28 points by early in the fourth quarter, despite the turnovers. Moore was pleased with that area of the offense’s game, especially after it was emphasized all week.

“The biggest thing we talked about and stressed was run the football,” the Michigan coach said. “We had 44 attempts for 301 yards, so I’d say that’s pretty successful. 6.81 yards per carry. So, that was an emphasis we put on the team, on the players, running backs, O-line, so that was good.

“But we just know we’ve got to stay balanced and do the things we need to do to make sure we’re balanced in all phases. Got to take care of the football, No. 1. And then be able to run the football like we have been. That made me happy. So, not even just the run game but everything in perspective.

“We’ve got to eliminate penalties — we talked about the penalties, saw the penalties. You can say they’re this, they’re that, but you can’t have them. For us, we’ve got to clean those up and be more disciplined. We’ve got to do a better job with the team to make sure we’re more disciplined from this day forward, and I will.”

Michigan’s starting defense held Arkansas State to just three points behind stellar play.

“I just thought they all did their job,” Moore said. “They did exactly what they were coached to do. They weren’t trying to press to make plays. They just made them. Coverage was sticky. Run lanes was shut down. Everything was gapped out. They made a couple plays here and there, but they really did a really good job and played our style of ball. It was really good to see, watch those guys rally.”
