Malachi Moore, Qua Russaw injury updates: Latest on Alabama defenders after exiting vs. Wisconsin

During Saturday’s game against Wisconsin, multiple Alabama players left with injuries. That includes Malachi Moore and Qua Russaw, and updates emerged on both players in the fourth quarter.

Moore and Russaw will be out for the remainder of Saturday’s game, as will running back Richard Young. The redshirt freshman left early in the fourth quarter and favored his right leg, according to BOL’s Charlie Potter.

FOX’s Jenny Taft said Moore’s injury was an upper-body issue. As for Russaw, he appeared to suffer a leg injury earlier in the game.

“There have been a couple injuries for Alabama I wanted to update you on, Gus,” Taft said. “Running back Richard Young, who we just saw leave the field and go into the tent, he is done for the day with a lower-body injury. Malachi Moore, the leader on the defense, also done for the day. They were evaluating his upper extremities. And Qua Russaw has been out for a while. He will not return, as well.”

Alabama’s offense was firing on all cylinders in Saturday’s game, taking a 42-10 lead in the fourth quarter. Jalen Milroe had a huge day, completing 12 of 17 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns in the air while adding a team-high 75 rushing yards and two touchdowns before Ty Simpson took over.

It’s safe to say the Crimson Tide passed its first test under new coach Kalen DeBoer. Prior to kickoff, former coach Nick Saban said the offensive line was going to be key, and that held true throughout Saturday’s contest.

“I’ve been there before,” Saban said on College GameDay. “This is a tough place to play if the fans get into it. But you know, to me, the biggest issue with Alabama so far has been they’re big-little. And I always hated when our offense played big-little. You make a lot of big plays, but then you have a lot of negative plays and inefficiency on offense whether it’s sacks, fumbles, penalties — all the things that put you behind the down and distance. You can’t sustain long drives and keep the ball and control the tempo of the game.

“I think with the offensive line getting fixed today — I think both tackles will play today, which they didn’t play last week — I think that will help a lot. Because most of the teams that struggle, they’re struggling up front and hopefully, Alabama can get that fixed today.”
