Washington injury report: Huskies down multiple players vs. Washington State

Washington injury report: Huskies down multiple players vs. Washington State

Even though Washington and Washington State are no longer in the Pac-12, the Apple Cup will still be played on Saturday.

The two heated rivals are set to face off at 3:30 p.m., marking for the first time since leaving the Pac-12 for the Huskies. Washington is under the direction of new head coach Jedd Fisch, who came over from fellow former Pac-12 school Arizona over the offseason.

Ahead of their clash with the Cougars, Washington has released their injury report, and it’s evident the Huskies will be without some key contributors on Saturday afternoon. Check it out below.

No. 88 Quentin Moore
No. 87 Ryan Otton

Alas, there will be a lot of new faces in this season’s iteration of the Apple Cup. Washington lost some players from the transfer portal and added some others with the coaching change, including quarterback Will Rogers, who came over from Mississippi State.

Expectations are high for Rogers at Washington after he had a solid career at Mississippi State. Ahead of the season, Jedd Fisch explained what Rogers did to earn the starting QB job.

“I think Will from the very beginning showed a command, a maturity. He has a ton of experience. We felt that, with a team of inexperience, it’s a nice thing to have a lot of experience at that position,” said Fisch. “Will has certainly shown that he has great leadership abilities. He has certainly embraced learning this offense and then has continued to improve week in and week out, day in and day out.”

Rogers won this job after transferring in following a prolific four-year as the leader in Starkville. In that time, he set program and conference records in single games, seasons, and in a career as a passer for the Bulldogs. With that, he in total posted 1,301 completions at a 69.3% rate for 12,315 yards, 94 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions.

After his senior season in Starkville, Rogers entered his name into the portal and transferred to Seattle in December. He did so as the No. 15 QB and No. 80 overall player in On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players.

Still, this pick wasn’t without competition with him having to compete against Demond Williams Jr.. The former recruit turned No. 19 QB transfer followed Fisch from Arizona to Washington this offseason. He too is now set to potentially play a role this season as well.

It was a healthy battle between Rogers and Williams Jr. with Fisch seeing that they’ve bonded during it.

On the other hand, the Cougars are led by Jake Dickert, who is in his third season as the head coach at WSU. Dickert and the Cougars finished with a 5-7 record in 2023. They’ll be hoping to pull an upset in Seattle.
