LaNorris Sellers injury update: Latest on South Carolina QB for second half vs. LSU

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers exited the first half a touch early after suffering an ankle injury while being tackled.

He’ll return in the second half, but how much he’ll be able to do remains to be seen, according to a sideline report from ABC’s Holly Rowe.

“Well they have taped up his ankle and he is going to try to play, they’re just not sure of how much he can do,” Rowe said. “He was one of the last guys to come out of the locker room. You can see his ankle is heavily taped. When he jogged out of the tunnel he had a noticeable limp.

“Now Shane Beamer reiterated at halftime they do have a lot of confidence in (backup Robby) Ashford. That is a big turn of events. We’ll see how much LaNorris Sellers can do, but how much can he run, that’s such a big piece of his game.”

The play on which LaNorris Sellers was injured occurred late in the second quarter, with South Carolina pushing for a final score before the half. LSU linebacker Greg Penn III got pressure from the inside, forcing Sellers to step up in the pocket.

As he did so, defensive end Bradyn Swinson crashed down from the edge and wrapped him up around the legs, landing on the ankle with his full force.

Sellers immediately reached for the ankle. He took a minute and then limped off the field, over toward the team bench with a trainer.

After testing the ankle for a minute or two, Sellers decided to head to the locker room early with the team trainer. That left backup quarterback Robby Ashford on the field for the final play of the half.

Ashford took a 3-yard sack to knock the team out of long field goal range. The clock ticked down to zeros, with South Carolina leading 24-16 at the half.

It’s worth noting that LaNorris Sellers also briefly left the field for last week’s game against Kentucky, only to return and put together an excellent second half. So there will certainly be hope he can do the same today.
