In the final seconds of the second quarter against Wisconsin, Qua Russaw went down with an injury. The Alabama linebacker appeared to get rolled up on with 48 seconds left and didn’t put weight on his left leg on his way to the sideline.

Russaw had two tackles at the time of his departure, and he entered Saturday’s game with six total on the young season. The Alabama defense stood strong through the first half, holding Wisconsin to just three points heading into halftime.

Alabama held a 14-3 lead when Russaw left the game and got the ball back after Wisconsin missed a field goal. It didn’t take long for Jalen Milroe and the offense to extend the advantage, though. The Crimson Tide took just two plays to go 73 yards and make it a 21-3 ballgame entering the break.

Wisconsin also suffered a big injury on the opening drive. Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke went down with a knee injury and almost immediately headed to the locker room. He was ruled out at halftime.

Saturday’s game had quite the atmosphere at Camp Randall stadium, and FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff was in attendance. It looked like the first big test for Kalen DeBoer’s new-look Alabama team after last week’s up-and-down affair against USF.

According to former Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban, the biggest issue for Alabama was efficiency on offense. While the big plays are important, the legendary coach said it comes down to offensive line to make sure the Tide isn’t reliant on those explosive plays.

“I’ve been there before,” Saban said on College GameDay. “This is a tough place to play if the fans get into it. But you know, to me, the biggest issue with Alabama so far has been they’re big-little. And I always hated when our offense played big-little. You make a lot of big plays, but then you have a lot of negative plays and inefficiency on offense whether it’s sacks, fumbles, penalties — all the things that put you behind the down and distance. You can’t sustain long drives and keep the ball and control the tempo of the game.

“I think with the offensive line getting fixed today — I think both tackles will play today, which they didn’t play last week — I think that will help a lot. Because most of the teams that struggle, they’re struggling up front and hopefully, Alabama can get that fixed today.”
